Welcome to HIKE MAINE COON CATTERY
“Love at first sight” best describes my introduction to the Maine Coon breed back in 2011. While reading an article on Autism and the benefits of Maine Coons as companion cats for children with ASD, I simply became smitten. Our first Maine Coon joined our home in 2013 as a companion for our autistic son. Our second Maine Coon, Charlie, has been with us since 2018. Our Maine Coons have continued to bring tremendous joy and love to our family and everyday life. In fact, they are the inspiration and motivation behind the creation of HIKE MAINE COON CATTERY, and the direction of the next chapter of our lives. Since retiring from the business world and sending the last of our six children off to college, I can think of nothing better than to fill my days with what I love: sharing my passion for Maine Coons.

Along with being a full-time working mom, cats have always been an integral part of my life. I have had many adventures with cats over the years, from training with Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department K-9 officers to participating in breeding shows and cat breeding in the TICA & CFA arenas.
And now, I feel so fortunate to have the ultimate joy of breeding Maine Coons.

My ethos revolves around the well-being of our female cats. We strictly limit their breeding cycles, ensuring no more than 20-35 litters per year to safeguard against overbreeding. Quality remains our focal point, ensuring each kitten born embodies the finest traits of the Maine Coon breed.

HIKE MAINE COON CATTERY BREED STANDARD
There truly is no sweeter cat than a HIKE MAINE COON CATTERY kitten. I adore their gentle, calm, and affectionate nature. My kittens have brought me so much love, happiness, and companionship. After falling completely in love with the breed, I wanted to produce healthy, loving, and beautiful companion kittens for others to call their own – so that they too could experience the unbelievable and unconditional love that is the breed!

My Background…
In addition to being a Maine Coon breeder, I am also a registered nurse, an animal lover, and a nurturer at heart. Breeding allows me to combine my passions for both animals and healthcare. I love being able to nurture new, precious life into this world. However, choosing to bring new life into this world is also something that I do not take lightly. I have very high standards and goals for my Maine Coon breeding program.

I am dedicated to preserving the traits and characteristics that make the Maine Coon cat so special. A lot of time, consideration, and planning takes place before breeding ever occurs. My breeding program aims to preserve and improve our Maine Coon breed by focusing on:
Excellent Health: Health is and always will be my first priority as a breeder. I only breed health-tested litters. All of my kittens are thoroughly health-screened, genetically tested, and regularly seen by my veterinarian. There are many health qualifications that my Maine Coons must meet before breeding in my program. All of our genetic testing can be viewed publicly on our website.
Loving Temperament: I strive to produce kittens that embody the true Maine Coon temperament—gentle, calm, docile, confident, playful, sweet, and affectionate. Genetics plays a significant role in producing this sweet and gentle temperament that I love so much, and extensive socialization is just the icing on the cake! After years of breeding and working with many different Maine Coon lines, I have come to realize that this “true Maine Coon temperament” is unfortunately not consistently produced among breeders and is not easily found. I have made it my mission to consistently produce and preserve this temperament to the best of my ability. I am highly selective of the temperaments in my breeding Maine Coons and do not continue breeding lines that are overly active, spunky, high-strung, overly shy, skittish, or timid. It takes dedication and many years to observe feline personality traits, how they develop in different lines, and selectively breed desired traits forward.
Breed Conformation: Breeding Maine Coons that physically exemplify the breed standard is also a major goal of mine, prioritized after health and temperament. A few physical features that I personally breed for in my program are correct facial structure with medium-small ears, vibrant eye color, and large boning. My personal preference is for Maine Coons that have sweet expressions and doll faces, without looking extreme or unbalanced. My kittens often have a softer and sweeter look compared to others, as I am highly selective with the appearance of the kittens in our Maine Coon breeding program.
